Wow has this been ugly.  There is no other way to sum up the first four weeks of the 2016 NFL season for Detroit Lions slot wideout Golden Tate who is fresh off being benched last Sunday due to poor play.  This kind of performance has gone exactly the opposite of what we and most other fantasy football pundits would have predicted for this season given the fact that the Lions were going to air it out with Matthew Stafford and Marvin Jones.  Be that as it may, Tate goes into Week 5 with just 14 catches for 95 yards and 0 touchdowns.  All from a guy who caught 90 and 99 passes the two seasons prior and who many (especially in PPR formats) drafted as a WR 2/3.  While offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter went pubic on Thursday saying he expected Tate to have a big game this week, those who own Tate (or owned him) are leery of putting him back in the lineup.

So what has gone wrong here?  Still in his prime at the age of 28, we can't even say Tate is in decline.  We also can't talk about injuries as Tate is healthy and has been for years relatively speaking.  However the arrival of Jones and the quick development of tight end Eric Ebron this season have likely stolen targets from Tate as Stafford can spread it around like never before.  Jones in particular has hurt Tate as he has been the clear number 1 target for Stafford and who right now is putting up monster WR 1 numbers this season.  That likely is not going to change as Jones is the better player and will be the main target of Stafford going forward.  Still Tate should still be doing better underneath and we have seen countless cases of team's having two wideouts putting up fantasy football numbers.

So what do we do with Tate for Week 4?  With by weeks now in full force, I would go back to the well on Tate since he will likely be involved in a shootout versus the Philadelphia Eagles and thus get a decent amount of targets.  Also you can count on Cooter and the Lions making an extra effort to get Tate involved as it would make their offense so much more potent.  Get him back in there and hope the turnaround arrives.  Also if Tate was cut in your league, add him as the ultimate buy low receiver this week.
