The Houston Astros needed a spot starter for Thursday's game versus the Cleveland Indians and they came up with a solution by tapping minor league pitching prospect David Paulino to make his debut against the Tribe. Only 22-years-old, Paulino has made a rapid ascent in the Astros system this season, making appearances at all three levels of their organization's farm system. At each spot the numbers have been very good, with Paulino having recorded a 1.83 ERA at Double-A with a 10.13 K/9 and then followed that up with a 3.86 ERA and 12.86 K/9 mark in 14 Triple-A innings prior to his recall. The Indians no doubt are a very tough first assignment which likely limits Paulino to just AL-only consideration but his strikeout ability is worth watching closely.
