COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 1 SUNDAY MORNING QB

By Kenny Johnston

College football Week 1 is almost all the way in the books and so let's get to some quick reaction to what we saw.

-Big trouble for LSU head coach Les Miles.  Coming into the season already on the hot seat, Miles oversaw a dud of an opener against an always tough Wisconsin team Saturday.  Showing nothing in the passing game behind woeful QB Brendan Harris, the LSU defense could only do so much in dropping an ugly 16-14 decision versus the Badgers.  The Badgers were trying to give this game away with QB Bart Houston looking awful at times in throwing two picks but Harris could do nothing in the passing game.  Harris is the typical of how an inadequate QB can derail a title hopeful as he is more athlete than passer which showed.  The accuracy was brutal and Harris is a major problem for them right now.  Also I can't see how Miles survives this, especially if LSU loses again before the month is out.

-Lots of talk and so far no action from UCAL QB Josh Rosen.  The arrogant Rosen tossed three picks in an ugly loss to Texas A @ M as the Bruins got off to a rough start.  Rosen raised a lot of eyebrows with a controversial interview with sports illustrated where he evoked a similar flamboyant attitude to Johnny Manziel but the play was not backed up by the bravado.

-Leonard Fournette has competion in terms of being the best running back in college football as Georgia RB Nick Chubb looked incredible in rushing for 222 yards in his return from an ugly knee injury.  Showing explosiveness and knee-bending cuts, Chubb already is putting himself in the Heisman Trophy chatter.

-Tennessee looked like LSU in terms of awful QB play leaving them susceptible to an upset.  Unlike LSU, Tennessee was able to pull out the win but it was over Appalachian State which is not saying much.  The Volunteers spoke about being a title contender this season but they won't get anywhere near there with that type of QB play.

-Classic game between Auburn and Clemson late last night, with the Tigers pulling it out late.  Auburn is always game against anyone but Clemson proved their mettle in securing the win despite a rough all around game on offense.

-USC was downright pathetic in dropping a 55-6 annihilation to the Alabama Crimson Tide last night.  There are some MAJOR problems with the USC program right now, from the coaching all the way to the AD.

-Absolutely loved what I saw from Georgia QB Jacob Eason.  This kid has a HUGE arm that already points him as a top NFL draft pick.  Matthew Stafford anyone?

-Wow what a story Houston is going to be this season.  Greg Ward Jr. has the skills to dominate both int he passing and running game and they really handed it to an Oklahoma team that was supposed to be a title contender.  Watch Houston closely as they are for real.
