FANTASY BASEBALL STATUS REPORT: JOSE PERAZA SS CINCINNATI REDS

Echoing the theme from Sunday when we did a Status Report on Milwauke Brewers outfielder Keon Broxton, there are some other recent fantasy baseball impact bats that are showing up on some other teams out of contention.  A very fast one has appeared at the shortstop spot for the Cincinnati Reds in the form of Jose Peraza and already he is making a decent impact, especially for those in need of a late-season stolen base push.  The 23-year-old has picked up 12 stolen bases in just 107 at-bats, also adding 2 home runs and a .308 average.  Since his recall from the minor leagues, Peraza has been locked in as he has gone 9-for-his-last-19 and he will be an everyday shortstop for the team until Zach Cozart returns from his injured Achilles.

As far as the history of Peraza is concerned, he has already been involved in two major trades as the centerpiece prospect, going from Atlanta to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and then to the Reds.  With speed to burn, Peraza's calling card has been stolen bases as he has gone for as many as 64 in a minor league A-ball season.  Peraza is also a good contact hitter which has helped him be a good average guy often in the .290-.320 range.  We are seeing these skills already with the Reds and Peraza pushing for playing time even when Cozart gets back.  Pick up Peraza where available and play him on a daily basis while he is in the lineup.
