FANTASY BASEBALL STATUS REPORT: GARY SANCHEZ C NEW YORK YANKEES

The youth movement is underway for the New York Yankees and needless to say we can't remember one time in the last 20 years making such a statement.  Such is the current state of the Yankees though after the front office correctly realized the 2016 verison of the team was just not working and so what followed can be considered a tear down as they dealt away closers Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller, outfielder Carlos Beltran, and starter Ivan Nova.  With jobs now there for the taking, the Yankees called up top catching prospect Gary Sanchez who will man the DH spot for the team tonight in their matchup against the cross-town New York Mets.  The 23-year-old Sanchez seems like he has been awhile but he has had just a collective 6 major league at-bats going into tonight as he stalled at times in his development in the minors.  In fact immaturity was the big issue for Sanchez who got suspended by the team not once but twice while in the minors which overshadowed what has been a very good bat.  Sanchez goes into the game tonight having hit .282 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI in just 313 at-bats for the team's Triple-A squad.  Sanchez also is doubly intriguing due to the fact he possesses very rare speed for a catcher as he has stolen 7 bases this season.  Think J.T. Realmuto here in terms of what Sanchez could become at the major league level but the problem in the immediate future is that he is blocked from behind the plate by veteran Brian McCann.  That is why Sanchez is DHing now but that is not a bad thing because he could be in the lineup every day with Beltran traded and Alex Rodriguez firmly planted on the bench.  As a result, Sanchez should be picked up in all leagues as his upside is still very good and of course catcher is the toughest spot to fill in our fake game.
