FANTASY BASEBALL TRADE DEADLINE NEWS AND NOTES: YANKS COULD STILL TRADE CHAPMAN IF IN CONTENTION

By Michael Wong

-It appears as though the New York Yankees are willing to deal closer Aroldis Chapman whether they are in the hunt for a playoff spot or not.  With the very capable Andrew Miller ready to reclaim the ninth inning where he excelled a year ago, Chapman could be moved before or at the Aug. 1 deadline.  Recent chatter has the Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, and Cleveland Indians as the prime contenders for Chapman.  In fact the Indians are the most aggressive and are willing to entertain a bigger package with both Chapman and outfielder Carlos Beltran.

-The starting pitching front is coming into focus as it appears Andrew Cashner, Anthony DelScalfani, Rich Hill, Sonny Gray, and Chris Archer are the main names being floated around.  The Texas Rangers are the most ardent in terms of picking up another starter, with them being connected most prominently to Cashner and DelScalfani.  Things have quieted on Hill as he has battled some recent injury issues but the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays remain interested.  Finally, the Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly past the initial phase of trade talks for Archer but it will cost them dearly in terms of either Julio Urias or another top piece from their minor league system.

-While there are big outfield names on the block such as Carlos Gonzalez, Jay Bruce, and Ryan Braun, it is the more affordable guys such as Josh Reddick, Nick Markakis, and Kole Calhoun who are getting most of the attention for now.

-Speaking of the Mets, the remain in walks with the Milwaukee Brewers regarding closer Jeremy Jeffress and setup man Will Smith.  Also they have touched base with Oakland on Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle.
