FANTASY BASEBALL TRADE DEADLINE FALLOUT: RED SOX ADDRESS ROTATION ISSUIES, ADD DREW POEMERANZ

Taking advantage of the congregation of MLB execs being in one place at the All-Star Game in San Diego, the Boston Red Sox fired off the first major trade volley of July by picking up starting pitcher Drew Pomeranza from the Padres for RHP Andrew Espinoza.  With the Padres record-wise being one of the worst teams in baseball, the correct choice was made to sell high on Pomeranz who is in the midst of a spectacular breakout season as he went into the break with the following sterling numbers:

8-7
2.47 ERA
1.06 WHIP
1115 K in 102 IP
10.15 K/9

Needless to say, Pomeranz has been incredible and his power repertoire exploded in the friendly confines of Petco Park.  Yours truly saw a breakout coming as I boosted Pomeranz as a good fantasy baseball sleeper for 2016 based on his environment in San Diego but even I didn't see him going off like this.  Be that as it may, my optimism was based on the weak NL West, tremendous ballpark, and presence in the National League.  That all goes out the window now as Pomeranz goes from literally one ballpark/league extreme to another in moving into the offensive haven that is Fenway Park.  Pomeranz also now has to deal with the DH and pitch in the most offensively potent division in baseball.  Combine all that together and you can be sure Pomeranz will see his K rate drop and his ERA/WHIP rise and maybe by a sizable margin.  Thus anyone owning stock in Pomeranz have to watch closely his performances going forward and an additional worry centers on fatigue also being a problem as he heads into career-high inning totals.  We could be looking at some very bumpy roads ahead as this is pretty much the worst locale outside of Colorado Pomeranz for Pomeranz in terms of being sent packing.
