FANTASY BASEBALL STATUS REPORT: MARCELL OZUNA OUTFIELDER MIAMI MARLINS

When the 2016 All-Star Game rosters were announced late Tuesday night, a power-hitting Miami Marlins outfielder was among the honorees.  Except this time it was not Giancarlo Stanton but instead Marcell Ozuna who got the call as the 25-year-old went into Wednesday's games with the following well-deserving line:

.314
17 HR
52 R
47 RBI
0 SB

The All-Star nod comes just one season after Ozuna showed immaturity and had some run-ins with management that helped get him sent back down to the minors leagues early in the 2015 season.  Likely humbled by the optioning back to the farm, Ozuna came back up during the summer and salvaged his season by hitting some late home runs and re-cementing his status for 2016.  Fast forward to present day and Ozuna is right back to being the breakout outfielder we saw in 2014 when he burst onto the scene with 23 home runs as a 23-year-old.

In digging into the numbers, Ozuna's big power has played well all season as he has kept up a home run rate that has remained steady no matter the month.  In addition, Ozuna has filled up the runs and RBI columns as he has remained durable and put up a very good .367 OBP.  While Ozuna has zero speed, he has successfully cut his K rate from last season's 22.3 percent to this year's 20.4.  Combined with a no doubt lucky .356 BABIP and Ozuna has surprisingly helped in the batting average department.  Combined it all together and Ozuna has been a nice outfielder 2.

When you look at the season Marcell Ozuna has had in 2016, it is easy to see that some maturity was needed a year go to help get him back on track.  It has worked as Ozuna is back to being the intriguing power-hitter he was in 2014 and in turn has become a dependable power bat once again.
