FANTASY BASEBALL INJURY FALLOUT: MATT CARPENTER 2B/3B ST. LOUIS CARDINALS

A major injury hit came down the pike late Wednesday when St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Matt Carpenter checked his swing during the team's game that night and in the process, suffered a strained oblique that landed him on the disabled list Thursday.  The loss of Carpenter is a huge blow to his fantasy baseball owners as his bat has been MVP-worthy both in our fake game and in real baseball as he has hit .298 with 14 home runs, 53 RBI, and 56 runs scored.  While Carpenter doesn't steal bases, his four categories contributions are tremendous and his power output in particular have validated the breakout in that column 28 he smashed a year go.  Retaining second base eligiblity was a big deal as well as the much shallow amount of big bats there upped Carpenter's value so much more.  While no word has been yet talked about in terms of how long Carpenter will be out, obliques are always tricky and tend to linger.  Stash him on the DL and hope for the best.
