FANTASY BASEBALL INJURY FALLOUT: JOE ROSS TO HAVE ELBOW CHECKED MONDAY

It was a bit of a disturbing sight on Saturday during the start for Washington Nationals youthful SP Joe Ross.  After beginning his start averaging between 93-95 mph with his fastball, Ross dipped all the way down to 89 in a very sharp drop which raised alarms in the Nats dugout.  While Ross said he felt fine and blamed the drop on his mechanics, the Nationals thought otherwise and placed him on the DL Sunday.  Ross will now head for testing on his elbow in order to rule out any structural issues and his shoulder should get a look as well.  Of course the biggest concern when it comes to something like this is UCL damage in the elbow which leads to Tommy John surgery in most cases.  We have seen examples of young pitchers who throw hard fall prey to this surgery and in fact victims make up this grouping around 80 percent of the time.  Ross qualifies on both fronts and this adds to the concern here.  Having a solid season with a 3.49 ERA, it could also be that Ross is going through a dead arm period which we also see out of young hurlers like with Marcus Stroman and Aaron Nola recently.  Always in a sitauation like this, you preapre for the worst and hope for the best.
