FANTASY BASEBALL CLOSING TIME: KELVIN HERRERA RECEIVES BIG CHANCE AT CLOSER WITH WADE DAVIS PLACED ON DL

There was a big bit of injury news in the closer world early Tuesday when it was learned that unhittable Kansas City Royals stopper Wade Davis was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a dreaded forearm strain.  With Davis now out for an undetermined amount of time, the focus turns to setup man Kelvin Herrera who has been one of the best in the game at what he does the last few seasons as his high-K stuff looks like a good match for the ninth inning.  As far as Davis is concerned, there is some major cause for worry here as a forearm strain many times is a precursor to Tommy John elbow surgery.  Davis is a classic candidate as well for the procedure as he is young and a very hard-thrower.  A loss of Davis as a closer is a major blow to his fantasy baseball owners as you can make the case that nobody has been better over the last three seasons as his ERA's during that span have been 1.00, 0.94, and this year's 1.23.  Now the testing will have to determine how long Davis which all of a sudden makes Herrera major add.  As I already noted, Herrera is a major strikeout guy as evidenced by his stellar 11.41 K/9 rate this season and his 1.41 ERA shows how dominant he can be.  There is no telling how long Davis could be out so Herrera is someone to run to the wire to get.
