FANTASY BASEBALL INJURY FALLOUT: MAJOR TROUBLE ON TAP FOR GERRIT COLE?

Without a doubt the biggest injury news of the night in fantasy baseball Friday was the removal of Pittsburgh Pirates ace starter Gerrit Cole from his outing with what the team later diagnosed as tightness in right triceps.  While pitching to a very good on paper 2.77 ERA, the 2016 has been a bit of a tough one for Cole and his fantasy baseball owners as his WHIP shot up to a very high 1.32 and his K/9 IP rate dropped in a very concerning manner (7.24 this season, 8.74 in 2015).  While Cole said publicly that he was purposefully pitching more to contact, there was still outside worry that maybe something was going on.  It was also easy to go down that route since Cole has a checkered injury history going back to his minor league days.  Now we get the word about the triceps injury and Cole will no doubt be placed on the disabled list Saturday.  Now the question is how long will he be out and what else could be in play here from an injury perspective.  More tests will be conducted on Cole and that will give us a more clearer picture of what we are dealing with.  Also we would be remiss to not mention the fact that Cole is a classic Tommy John case in that he is younger than 27 (25) and throws very hard.  Those two trends combined together cover almost 80 percent of Tommy John cases and that makes this very worrisome for Cole.  Stay tuned for an update on Saturday but as always prepare for the worst.   Also count on the recently demoted Jameson Taillon getting a quick recall to take Cole's spot in the rotation.
