FANTASY BASEBALL STAT OF THE DAY: MATT HARVEY STRUGGLES IN FIFTH INNING AND BEYOND

We first tweeted this out last night as New York Mets SP Matt Harvey began to melt down again in the sixth inning versus the Atlanta Braves but a clear trend is emerging in this so far very rough season for both he and his fantasy baseball owners.

After six starts Matt Harvey's inning ERA's stand as the following:

1st:  1.50
2nd:  3.00
3rd:  1.50
4th:  1.50
5th:  6.00
6th:  20.25

As you can see the trends speak loudly here as Harvey is having incredible trouble going a third time through a batting order.  With his K rate also down a full 2.5 runs compared to last season which is a staggering drop, Harvey has been a giant bust for his owners.  The best explanation for this is the 216 innings Harvey threw last season which is likely sapping power from his arm.  While adrenaline and freshness helps Harvey get through the first four innings with little trouble, the fifth is when the fatigue is starting to set in compared to around the 7th a year ago.  Add it all up and I wouldn't even suggest buying low on Harvey given what we have seen and the likelihood of more trouble as the 2016 innings add up the rest of the season.
