FANTASY BASEBAL STOCK WATCH: MICHAEL CONFORTO OUTFIELDER NEW YORK METS

Once we began putting the finishing touches on the 2015 fantasy football season, our internal clocks began to move swiftly to 2016 fantasy baseball.  We began the endless preview of the upcoming season by rolling out our first SLEEPER feature which centered on upstart New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto.  After coming up to the Mets midway through the 2015 season which completed a rapid rise to the majors after being the 10th overall pick in the 2014 draft, Conforto quickly showed the advanced bat and burgeoning power that made him such a consensus top prospect in a short amount of time.  Overall Conforto batted .270 with 9 home runs and 26 RBI in just 194 at-bats and at the age of only 23 going into the 2016 season, there was more than a little sleeper hype attached to his name.  We discussed all of this in out feature on Conforto, making it a point to talk up his advanced plate discipline which would likely result in him immediately being an average asset.  In addition, we noted the power that was really beginning to take shape in Conforto's bat that could eventually result in a 25 home run campaign.  Alas there were issues against lefthanded pitching that needed to be worked out but Conforto was clearly one to get in 2016 drafts.

As we now move into the month of May, what transpired over the previous month with Conforto was nothing short of spectacular.  The biggest key of course was manager Terry Collins moving Conforto into the three hole after the first week-and-a-half of the season as the Met lineup went limp.  A panic move maybe but since the promotion, Conforto has done nothing but hit ropes all over the park to the tune of a scorching .342 average with 4 home runs and 18 RBI in just 91 at-bats.  Plate discipline?  A big check there as Conforto has struck out in just 19.8 percent of his at-bats which is tremendous for a young hitter.  Want more evidence?  How about a terrific 9.9 walk rate which again speaks to how advanced Conforto's approach is.  While he doesn't run much (1 stolen base), Conforto is already pointing toward being a four category stud which is beginning in 2016.

When you put it all together, Michael Conforto is as good a young hitter as there is in fantasy baseball.  The approach is phenomenal, the move to the third spot tremendous for his value, and the power is taking off at a nice upward direction.  Flat out, Conforto can really hit and he is already looking at outfielder 2 numbers this early in the season.  He is going to be a star without any argument.  In fact he already just might be by the looks of things this season.

  1. Baseball fans are among the most hopeful individuals on the planet. For one hundred years now, Cubs fans have trusted this is their year to win it all. They approached in 2008 and are on edge to eradicate their spill from the post season with another shot in the Major League Baseball playoffs.

  2. In baseball, a perfect game is a game where none of the batters from each competing team reaches a base. Usually, the pitcher is the one who is in the limelight whether he "throws" a perfect game or not. For more information click on the sportmystery.
