FANTASY BASEBALL STOCK WATCH: KEEPING TABS ON DALLAS KEUCHEL K RATE

As expected, the Houston Astros rolled out ace SP Dallas Keuchel for the team's opener on Tuesday versus the New York Yankees and in general the lefty pitched well once again against the team that he absolutely dominated in three starts in 2015 which includes the wild card victory.  Keuchel went six innings and gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 4 walks.  The walks were abnormal as Keuchel has tremendous control that helped launch him into ace status last season.  It was the explosion of Keuchel's strikeout totals in 2015 however that really elevated him into the stratosphere.  That also was the part of his game that we questioned the most entering into 2016 as his 216 K's dwarfted the 146 from the year prior.  Thus we were interested to see how Keuchel would begin the season in that are and agianst a team he whiffed 28 times in 22 innings in 2015, he collected only 3 during the outing.  Of course it was only one start which is an incredibly small sample size but we continue to argue that Keuchel won't get back to his 2015 K total and maybe nowhere close.  If Keuchel does see a drop there, it could push him down to Sonny Gray territory as a very good ace starter but one who doesn't have the K's to match the Chris Sales or Madison Bumgarner's of the world.  Something to keep an eye on.
