FANTASY BASEBALL CLOSER WATCH: K-ROD MAKES BAD FIRST IMPRESSION IN DETROIT

The Detroit Tigers made it their mission to go out and finally try to solve the bullpen issues that have dogged teams for the better part of the last five years.  With that in mind, a trade was completed with the Milwaukee Brewers for All-Star closer Francisco Rodriguez, while setup man Mark Lowe was added in free agency.  On paper things look greatly improved by Tuesday's game showed the opposite as Rodriguez blew the save in spectacular fashion in giving up three runs on four hits to the lower half of the Miami Marlins order.  Lowe himself had some trouble in the eighth as he too gave up a run.  It was about as ugly a debut as Rodriguez could have had and at 34 no blown save is a small matter for the veteran.  Remember while Rodriguez successfully reinvented himself the last two years with the Brewers, prior to that he was almost out of baseball as his fastball velocity sank badly.  Any more erosion to his stuff is likely to send Rodriguez to the streets for good so his next outing has to be watched closely.  One thing we have seen countless times before is that manager have very short leashes when it comes to struggling closers and Rodriguez is included.
