FANTASY BASEBALL NEWS: JHONNY PERALTA UNDERGOES SURGERY ON THUMB

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta officially had surgery on the torn thumb ligament that he suffered this past weekend and he will miss the next 12-14 weeks as a result.  Jedd Gyorko or Aledmys Diaz will likely fill-in during his absence.

Analysis:  So the first major injury for a hitter is now in the rear view mirror.  Peralta has 15-20 home run power which is very rare for the shortstop position but he can be cut in deeper formats due to his very long absence.  Meanwhile Gyorko gains some more value as shortstop-eligible and he too can hit 15-20 home runs.  The average can be a big problem with his high K rate though.
