FANTASY BASEBALL INJURY FALLOUT: YET MORE KNEE WOES FOR V-MART

Another spring and another knee injury for Detroit Tigers DH/1B Victor Martinez.  For the third spring in four years, Martinez was felled by a knee injury, this time during Monday's exhibition game versus the New York Mets.  Martinez grabbed his knee while rounding first base early in the game and he was grimacing as he immediately headed off the field and into the locker room for presumed testing.  This of course is nothing new for the aging Martinez who missed all of 2012 due to knee surgery, then was hobbled for the start of last season for the same reason.  Martinez had a spectacular campaign in 2014 when he came out of clear outlier territory to smack 32 home runs and collect 103 RBI in a contract year but we called the BS right away.  In fact we said as much prior to last season in labeling Martinez one of the more obvious bust candidates for 2015.  Well again the knee went bad in the spring and never really got better throughout the season as Martinez hit .245 with just 11 home runs.  Now having turned 37 this past December, Martinez could be close to being finished if this turns out to be another serious knee issue.  Having eligibility only at first base and mostly at UTIL only in some formats, Martinez should not be bothered in any capacity for 2016 fantasy baseball.
