FANTASY BASEBALL INJURY FALLOUT: JHONNY PERALTA FIRST BIG INURY OF SEASON

The St. Louis Cardinals have had some rotten luck in the injury department the last couple of seasons and already 2016 is off to a very rough start when it was learned on Monday that they could be without shortstop Jhonny Peralta the next 2-3 months with a possible ligament tear in his left thumb.  The injury is similar to the one that took down Cards catcher Yadier Molina last season and in the process, the team is facing a big loss with their power-hitting shortstop now on the shelf.  While Peralta is not for everyone in fantasy baseball terms due to the fact he completely lacks in the stolen base department which is a skill you want from your middle infielders but there is no denying his powerful stick.  Peralta smacked 17 home runs and drove in 71 RBI with a .275 average which are offensive numbers you don't see much from the position.  Now the fallout begins for those who already own stock in Peralta and for now the Cards can go with either the strikeout-prone Jedd Gyorko or with Cuban Aledmys Diaz.  Either way, you really don't want to own stock in any of these guys unless you take part in NL-only setups.
