2016 FANTASY BASEBALL STOCK WATCH: EDWIN ENCARNACION 1B TORONTO BLUE JAYS

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion has been a favorite of these parts for a few years now of which we are fully transparent about.  Even before Encarnacion began hitting missiles all over and out of the baseball field with the Blue Jays, he was a burgeoning talent that we touted going back to his Cincinnati Reds days.  It was not until Encarnacion made it to Toronto where he put all his vast talents together in the form of a monster 42-home run 2012 campaign that also included 110 RBI and 13 steals.  While the steals have washed away as he sailed into his 30's, Encarnacion continued to pound the baseball to the tune of 36, 34, and 29 home runs the last three seasons.  Of course when you own Encarnacion, you go in knowing that he is a bit susceptible to injury which has always been a part of his profile.  While Encarnacion has not suffered extended absences from the lineup in his career, he has been "day-to-day" more than enough during his career.  As far as 2016 fantasy baseball is concerned, Encarnacion is right there behind Paul Goldschmidt and with Jose Abreu and Anthony Rizzo as a top tier guy.  With the season starting in two weeks however, a monkey wrench has been thrown into the equation in the form of an oblique injury that has him shut down for a week.  While manager John Gibbons says Encarnacion has enough time to be ready for Opening Day, he couldn't guarantee it.  So with that said, Encarnacion has a chance to begin the season on the DL and so he should be clearly dropped behind Rizzo and Abreu in the first base rankings.  Those looking for value could now possibly get Encarnacion as a late second round pick which would be a steal as the injury is not deemed serious but still this is not what you want to be talking about if you are an owner already this season.
