2016 FANTASY BASEBALL PLAYER ANALZYER: DJ LeMAHIEU 2B COLORADO ROCKIES

We stay in Colorado for our latest 2016 Fantasy Baseball Player Analyzer and today check in on a very nice and somewhat muted 2015 breakout season engineered by Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu and what his prospects looks like this year.  A semi-starter during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, LeMathieu grabbed hold of an every day starting job early in the 2015 season and wound up being selected an All-Star as he batted .311 the first half of the year while hitting 4 home runs and stealing 10 bases.  LeMahieu kept is going in the second half as well and finished with the following numbers which were all career-bests from the speedster:

.301
6 HR
61 RBI
85 R
23 SB

When you factor in how shallow and frustrating second base can be in fantasy baseball, LeMahieu ended up being one of the better values in the game and sets the stage for the 27-year-old for the 2016 season.  So as always let's did in here and find out what could come out of investing in LeMahieu going forward.

Clearly what stands out about LeMahieu is his ability to be a leadoff or number 2 batters and that means being an asset in average, runs, and stolen bases.  LeMahieu combines a decent K rate (17.3 percent last season) with a good walk rate (8.1 percent) to engineer a .358 OBP in 2015 that put him in position to score a high number of runs and steal bases at the top of the Colorado order.  Consider that LeMahieu will once again bat in front of massive thumpers Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez for 2016 and 90-plus runs should be a piece of cake as well as a batting average once again near .300 due to how many good pitches he will get to hit.  Once again, LeMahieu will be able to use his very good speed to top 20 stolen bases again as well but already in his prime as he gets set to turn 28 in July, don't count on a run to 30.

As far as the rest of the categories are concerned, LeMahieu will not hit much more then the 6 home runs he cracked a year ago and there is no guarantee he even gets that amount again either.  With such little power, it was impressive LeMahieu picked up 61 RBI in 2015 and a repeat there is possible considering the potency of the ballpark.  However bank on 55-60 RBI and be happy with any bonus above that number.

When you put it all together, DJ LeMahieu will once again likely be a top ten fantasy baseball second baseman who will help you in three categories and comes at a somewhat decent price.  While he won't be a difference-making player, he will more than earn his keep based on his underrated ability.

2016 PROJECTION:  .307 5 HR 65 RBI 96 R 24 SB
