FANTASY BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS REPORT: CUBS TRYING HARD TO LAND SHELBY MILLER, JASON HEYWARD

By Michael Wong

Nashville, TN.--The Chicago Cubs were doing their thing late Monday night in terms of trying to add to their already impressive array of rotation arms.  After securing John Lackey on an affordable two-year deal, the Cubs were involved heavily with the Atlanta Braves over Shelby Miller. There were reports a deal was imminent but that proved to be inaccurate.  What is obvious is that the Cubs want to add one more arm to join Lackey, Jon Lester, and Cy Young winner Jake Arrietta at the top of the rotation and Miller is their latest target.  Also at the very least, the Braves seem hell bent on moving Miller as they also continually talk with the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Of course the D-Backs won't trade outfielder A.J. Pollock for Miller which is understandable but Julio Teheran also could be involved in a separate deal between the two sides.

-Ben Zobrist has still not signed but like we reported yesterday, he wants to stay on the East Coast which eliminated the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers.  The New York Mets are still the favorites but the Washington Nationals are making them earn it.

-The Aroldis Chapman thing is becoming quite the mess as Ken Rosenthal reported he may have injured a hand in a domestic issue.  That could finish the deal and reinstall Kenley Jansen as the Los Angeles Dodgers closer.

-Gerardo Parra is being treated as a backup outfielder option for those who are chasing Alex Gordon and Yoenis Cespedes.
