FANTASY BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS REPORT: METS/YANKS EYEING ASDRUBAL CABRERA

By Michael Wong

Nashville, TN.--The New York Mets and New York Yankees have both spoken to the reps for free agent infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, with the former Ray being the backup option for the Mets if they fail to land Ben Zobrist.  Meanwhile the Yanks would rather not go into the season with Dustin Ackley and Rob Refsnyder as their two options at second base.

-There is absolutely no trade chatter right now around Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner but Andrew Miller continues to be connected to the Houston Astros.

-Mike Napoli could return to the Boston Red Sox on a one-year deal to be a backup bat.

-The San Diego Padres are starting to make noise, with them being the most interested so far in free agent shortstop Ian Desmond.  They continue to peddle both James Shields and Andrew Cashner but teams are much more interested in Tyson Ross.

-The Royals are working hard to bring back outfielder Alex Gordon but they are getting a bunch of heat from the Tigers and Cardinals.
