FANTASY BASEBALL TRADE FALLOUT: ORIOLES ACQUIRE MARK TRUMBO TO REPLACE CHRIS DAVIS

The Baltimore Orioles moved quickly to acquire 1B Mark Trumbo from the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, sending only Steve Clevenger out west to get the deal completed.  The move is a significant one in that it likely spells the end of Chris Davis' tenure with the Orioles as the free agent first baseman has not had hardly any talks with the team about re-signing.  Instead the Orioles bought low on Trumbo who is coming off a very poor 2015 campaign where he hit just .262 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI.  Obviously the move to Seattle was predictably rough on Trumbo's offensive numbers but we were not big boosters of the guy even during his Arizona Diamondbacks days when he first put himself on the map with his home run swing.  While we did like the versatility Trumbo brought to the fantasy baseball table (at one point also having eligibility at third base and the outfield which is no longer), the fact of the matter is that the guy had holes in his swing that showed up in his ugly .250 batting average for his career.  It has also been two full seasons now since Trumbo reached the 30 home run mark as opposing pitchers no doubt are being much more careful with him after he erupted for 29, 32, and 34 home runs from 2011-13.  Still the move to Baltimore should be nothing but a help to Trumbo's bat as ballpark has generally been one of the best power parks in the game for years.  We have seen Davis put up monster home run totals the last few seasons in Baltimore despite having a similar hitting approach like Trumbo in terms of a high K rate and ugly batting averages.  Ultimately we like Trumbo only as a UTIL or CI bat who stands a solid chance of going near the 30 home run mark again this season given his new home.
