FANTASY BASEBALL BREAKING NEWS: RED SOX THROW IN TOWEL ON WADE MILEY, DEAL HIM TO SEATTLE

The Boston Red Sox traded starting pitcher Wade Miley and reliever Jonathan Aro to the Seattle Mariners for a reliever Carson Smith and starter Roenis Elias.

Analysis:  There is actually a few layers here worth discussing.  The first is that the Red Sox threw in the towel on Miley just one year after they brought him, Joe Kelly, and Rick Porcello in championing their cause of bringing in what they thought was high-level and cost-effective starters. All three fell flat on their faces due to the lack of K rates, with Miley posting a 4.46 ERA and ugly 1.37 WHIP.  He moves to a much more favorable park in Safeco Field so he could go back to being a useful SP 5 there.  In addition, Elias himself was a useful SP 5 the last two seasons for the M's with solid ratios but he now has almost zero value in going into the AL East.  Finally Smith is a promising power arm who was once thought of as the future closer for the Mariners but he will now just pitch in setup for new closer Craig Kimbrel in Boston.
