FANTASY BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS REPORT: BRETT GARDNER "GOOD AS GONE"

By Michael Wong

Boca Raton, Fla.--Just hours after the New York Yankees agreed to a trade with the Minnesota Twins for outfielder Alex Hicks, a team official told me directly here that Brett Gardner is now "good as gone."  The team official said that the Yanks and Seattle Mariners remain in talks about Gardner, with names such as James Paxton possibly being part of a return with prospects.

-Joakim Soria and Darren O'Day are the two names being bandied about the most here, with the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets both being prominent figures in talks for each.

-The San Francisco Giants are prepared to challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs in terms of the David Price-Zack Greinke-Jordan Zimmerman sweepstakes.  The Giants really want another top arm to join Madison Bumgarner as Chris Heston is not there yet or may never be and Jake Peavy and Matt Cain are shells of their former top-notch selves.

-Speaking of the Dodgers, they are doing everything they can to bring back Greinke but will quickly ink Price or Zimmerman if they do lose him to another club.

-Andrew Miller really may be moved after all.  Many here thought that it was lip service when Brian Cashman said Miller was in fact available after a dominant 2015 season but with Dellin Betances more than capable of closing, it appears where there is smoke there is fire.  The Arizona Diamondbacks and Kansas City Royals are both involved here.
