FANTASY BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS REPORT: YANKS/M'S DISCUSSED BRETT GARDNER

By Michael Wong

Boca Raton, Fla.--The early reports of the day on Wednesday were the Seattle Mariners engaging the availability of New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner.  The Yanks reportedly are willing to move Gardner as they in no way have a market for Jacoby Ellsbury due to the five years remaining on his deal and the for the second winter in a row the Mariners are in on the bats.

In addition to the Gardner inquiry, the Mariners have talked a number of times with the agent for free agent slugger Chris Davis.  Davis would join Nelson Cruz as former Baltimore Oriole sluggers who would head West and the ballpark dropoff to Safeco Field has not hurt Cruz in the least.  That means Davis will likely still be in the 40-home run area code no matter where he plays.

-The Mets will NOT move Matt Harvey or Steven Matz despite some reports that were floating around out there.  I spoke to a team official directly who told me as much.  The Mets are all-in on the pitching being their strength but they are willing to move Rafael Montero in a deal for a bullpen arm.

-The Yankees have actually checked in on David Robertson after making a waiver claim on his last August.
