FANTASY BASEBALL HOT STOVE SIGNINGS: J.A. HAPP REMOVES ANY FANTASY APPEAL SIGNING WITH TORONTO

When it comes to free agency as a starting pitcher, about the only place outside of Rogers Center in Toronto you would want to avoid would be Coors Field in Colorado from an offensive potency standpoint.  Well that didn't seem to occur to veteran starter J.A. Happ who on Friday signed a three-year deal worth $36 million with the Blue Jays to fill out a back-end rotation slot.  Happ clearly capitalized on a very hot stretch with the Pittsburgh Pirates during the second half of 2015 when he registered a 1.88 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 69 strikeouts in 63.1 innings after coming over from the Seattle Mariners via a trade.  Now 33, Happ is setting himself up for major trouble in the offensive haven that is Toronto for the 2016 season and thus removing himself from fantasy baseball consideration even in AL-only formats.  This has disaster written all over it as Happ was nothing but a beyond mediocre starter throughout his career before his hot run with the Pirates, habitually posting ERA's in the mid-4.00 range to go with middling K rates.  With the way the AL East is annually a monster offensive division and given the runs that go up like a machine in Toronto, Happ will struggle to keep his ERA under 4.25 this season to go with other ugly ratios.  Avoid completely.
