FANTASY BASEBALL BREAKING NEWS: MATT WIETERS ACCEPT QUALIFYING OFFER, IAN KENNEDY REJECTS IT

Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters became the second player in MLB history to accept the 15.8 million qualifying offer after he missed a majority of games over the last two years with injuries.  Wieters underwent Tommy John elbow surgery in 2014 and took some time getting back the next season.  He is expected to remain the starting catcher for the Orioles after accepting the deal.  On a related front, Ian Kennedy rejected the qualifier from the San Diego Padres.

Analysis:  Again you have to wonder how much happy the Orioles are to be paying so much money to an injury-prone catcher like Wieters has been.  In between though, Wieters has proven to be a very good hitting catcher and a big 2016 could set him up for a major payday.  He presents good draft value this season with the ceiling to come near 20 home runs.  Meanwhile Kennedy remains a very good strikeout pitcher but one prone to wild swings in numbers.  He is very dependable on the ballpark given his high home run rate and so quantifying him as an SP 3 or 4 depends on his new locale.
