FANTASY BASEBALL BREAKING TRADE DEADLINE NEWS: NATS GOING HARD AFTER JONATHAN PAPELBON AFTER LOSING OUT ON TYLER CLIPPARD

A front office official connected closely to the Washington Nationals front office reported that the team thought they had a deal in place for Oakland A's closer and former team setup man Tyler Clippard before Billy Beane flipped him to the New York Mets late Monday.  After seeing Clippard go to their main NL East rivals, the source said that was what led the team to step up their recent pursuit of Philadelphia Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon.  Things have progressed to the point that the team and Papelbon and discussing what his role will be since Drew Storen has been very good as the team's stopper this season.

Analysis:  I would have to imagine that Papelbon needs to hear he will close for the Nats for a deal to go through. This is a sticky situation as Storen has been terrific all season but he has a reputation of melting down in the postseason.  Papelbon meanwhile has said he wants to close wherever he gets traded to.
