FANTASY FOOTBALL AT THE COMBINE: WINSTON'S SHOULDER NOT ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT

By Randy Rubin

Indianapolis, IN.-Today is a big day here at the Combine as both Oregon QB Marcus Mariota and Florida State QB Jameis Winston will throw.  Winston became a big storyline Friday when he went to get his "weak" shoulder checked.  It turned out to be much adieu about nothing and Winston will throw without any restrictions on Saturday.  The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to give strong hints he will be the guy they take.  Meanwhile Mariota is gaining steam as far as possibly being the number two pick by the Tennessee Titans or any team that trades up.  The latest I heard late last night was that the Titans love USC DT Leonard Williams but that they would listen to offers from teams like the New York Jets to move up to two.  No word has emerged about them taking Mariota however as they would than go with Randy Gregory or Shane Ray if they traded with the Jets.  Meanwhile the Philadelphia Eagles remain the likely favorite to move up and get Mariota but the price will be very steep.

-Speaking of the monstrous Williams, he measured in at 6-5 and 302 yesterday.  Williams looks like a can't miss guy who will eat up a ton of space in the middle and also generate a strong rush.  He won't last past the fifth pick.

-Amari Cooper to the Oakland Raiders is almost a formality unless a team trades up to get him.

-Georgia RB Todd Gurley is not making friends here but not allowing teams to look at his medicals which raised many question marks about his surgically repaired knee.

-Minnesota tight end Maxx Williams was a disappointment in the 40-yard dash as he came in at 4.78.  Still Williams should be a top 15 pick as a big-time receiver tight end who compares to a slower Jimmy Graham.

-Speaking of tight ends, Penn State's Jesse James had a 10-foot-1 broad jump and ran a nice 40-time of 4.83 and 4.86 for a guy who was not on the map as a big-time prospect.  James is rising quickly and could move himself closer to third round territory.

-The Sam Bradford situation is getting sticky for the St. Louis Rams as he continues to reiterate that he won't take a pay cut in basically begging the team to cut him.  The Cleveland Browns would than sign him in a millisecond.  Josh McCown is their backup if that plan falls through but either way Johnny Manziel is not being counted on.

-It will be Ryan Mallett and not Tom Savage who will start Week 1 this season if the two sides can come to an agreement.

-Nebraska defensive lineman Randy Gregory measured in at 6-4 and 278.  Top five pick for sure here with maybe the Jacksonville Jaguars taking the plunge.

-The Atlanta Falcons are monitoring the Justin Forsett sweepstakes which is interesting since the word the day prior was that Devonte Freeman was the guy for 2015.

Check back later for more.
