FANTASY FOOTBALL AT THE COMBINE: LOTS OF RUMORS FLYING ALREADY

By Randy Rubin

Indianapolis, IN.--This is my first NFL Combine assignment for the Fantasy Sports Boss and yours truly is looking forward to all the action that already has descended here.  The central part of the weekend will be the workouts of the 2015 NFL Draft Class but as always this is also sort of pro football's version of baseball's Winter Meetings.  So without delay let's get to all the latest.

-Surprisingly, one of the more popular players here has been free agent QB Josh McCown.  McCown already has had talks with the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and Chicago Bears and here in Indy he met with the New York Jets.  All four teams have major QB question marks and it looks like McCown might get another crack at starting despite bombing out with the Tampa Bay Buc's last season.

-Speaking of the Buc's, right now the team is rebuffing all attempts at WR Vincent Jackson.

-The Jets are going to be major players in free agency as confirmed by new GM Mike Macagnan.  Macagnan just got done meeting with the media and he said the team will open up the wallet for free agents.  There is a report the Jets will target RB C.J. Spiller to complement Chris Ivory and also see if CB Antonio Cromartie is interested in a return.

-New Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said earlier in the day Wednesday that Peyton Manning will be back under center in 2015.  He also later said that there is no guarantee C.J. Anderson will be the starting running back next season.  Kubiak said that Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman will get a chance.

-Widespread reports here also suggest that tight end Julius Thomas is as good as gone.  Thomas is being courted heavily by the Browns and there is talk the New England Patriots could get involved.  Owen Daniels has been mentioned as a Thomas replacement.

-There has been conflicting talk about whether or not the St. Louis Rams have given permission to QB Sam Bradford to seek another team through a trade.  The two sides are more likely to restructure Bradford's contract as they don't seem likely to move up to draft Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota.

-The worst kept secret here is that the Buc's will take Winston number 1 overall.  Get him fitted for the jersey.

-Mariota is the one that will have some intrigue surrounding his name.  The Jets will take Mariota if he falls to six which other QB-needy teams realize.  If a team wants to move up and get him, they will have to lap the Jets to get the prize.

-Reggie Bush will have to accept a pay cut to return to the Detroit Lions.  This is Joique Bell's team now as far as the lion's share of backfield work is concerned.

-Brian Hoyer will not return to the Browns.

-Jay Gruden put talk to rest regarding his QB and said Robert Griffin III will begin the season as the starter.  Perhaps more interesting is who will back him up.

There you have it.  As always there will be further reports as the news breaks so check back often.
