2015 FANTASY BASEBALL STARTING PITCHING DRAFT TIERS

The draft tiers for the starting pitchers are up next as we continue along with our 2015 fantasy baseball preparations.

TIER 1

Clayton Kershaw-Max Scherzer-Stephen Strasburg-David Price-Madison Bumgarner-Yu Darvish-Chris Sale-Felix Hernandez

All of the guys listed above as the top of the heap dominant power aces in every sense of the word.  Some may be more injury prone than others but these guys are all premium number 1's who are tremendous anchors to your staff.  You just have to be all right with picking a starter so high at the expense of the more shallow bats.

TIER 2

Zack Greinke-Johnny Cueto-Adam Wainwright-Jon Lester-Corey Kluber-Matt Harvey-Jordan Zimmerman-Cole Hamels-Julio Teheran

This is where I will likely get my first starter from as all of these guys are more affordable ace pitchers.  I put Wainwright here and not in Tier 1 as his numbers would suggest due to his injury concerns.  Also Greinke is on the verge of being a Tier 1 guy as is Harvey is he comes back and shows his health.  Zimmerman is the best non-180-K pitcher in baseball.

TIER 3

Sonny Gray-Jeff Samardzjia-Gio Gonzalez-Jacob DeGrom-Tyson Ross-James Shields-Jose Fernandez-Alex Cobb-Gerrit Cole-Lance Lynn-Cliff Lee-Garrett Richards

Youth is served here as almost every one of these guys except for Shields, Gio, and Samardzjia are developing hard-throwing aces.  Fully buy into the breakouts of DeGrom and Ross and Fernandez is a Tier 1 ace when he gets back.

TIER 4

Doug Fister-Phil Hughes-Hisashi Iwakuma-Ian Kennedy-Homer Bailey-Masahiro Tanaka-Anibal Sanchez-Alex Wood-Zach Wheeler-Marcus Stroman-Hyun-Jin Ryu-Jered Weaver-Scott Kazmir-mat Latos-Chris Archer-Michael Wacha-Yordano Ventura-Jason Hammel

Take advantage of the nice prices here to stock up on starters.  Ideally I will take one from Tier 2, one from Tier 3, and start stocking up here with more than one.  Wood and Stroman are on my short lists of major breakout starters this season.

TIER 5

Matt Cain-Andrew Cashner-Francisco Liriano-Jake Peavy-Matt Shoemaker-Jake Arietta-Justin Verlander-Chris Tillman-Jake Odorizzi-Colin McHugh-R.A. Dickey-Mike Minor-Shelby Miller-Carlos Carrasco-Daniel Duffy-Kyle Lohse-Tanner Roark-Tajuan Walker-Ervin Santana -Henderson Alvarez-Jose Quintana-Michael Pineda-Dallas Keuchel

Shakiness starts here as there are fading veterans like Verlander and Cain and some upside that is unproven like Shoemaker, Carassco, and Odorizzi.  Still there is solid value to be had here as well before things further drop in value.

TIER 6

Yovani Gallardo-Marco Estrada-Mike Fiers-C.C. Sabbathia-Matt Moore-John Lackey-Tim Hudson-A.J. Burnett-Derek Holland-Bartolo Colon-Wily Peralta-Alfredo Simon-Drew Hutchinson-Edinson Volquez-Drew Smyly-Jon Niese-Jason Vargas

Some ugly names here but also some who could help as your number 5 starter this season.  Be sure you have a good base in your rotation before delving into this group.

After this tier there really is nothing but SP 5's and waiver fodder.  Act accordingly during your draft.
