2015 FANTASY BASEBALL PLAYER ANALYZER: YAN GOMES C CLEVELAND INDIANS

                                          Yan Gomes

Serving as a rare spring training made good, Cleveland Indians catcher Yan Gomes firmly established himself as a top 5-7 fantasy baseball catcher during the 2014 season.  After opening eyes in 2013 by hitting 11 home runs and collecting 38 RBI while batting .294 in only 293 at-bats, Gomes was given the full-time catching job for 2014 when the Indians moved Carlos Santana to third base.  With pressure firmly placed on his shoulders to continually produce behind the plate, Gomes responded by passing the hallowed for a catcher 20-home run mark with 21 while batting a solid. 278 in 485 at-bats.  The Brazilian turns a still young 28 this July which means Gomes is now firmly planted into his prime years as he gets drafted nearly as a top five option behind the plate based on early ADP's for 2015.  So with all of that said, here is what Gomes could supply his owners this season.

When projecting Gomes going forward, it is very important to understand that at 28, there is very little ceiling left to his game.  While Gomes is a late bloomer, don't look automatically for a jump to 25 home runs just because he has another year of experience.  While it is not impossible, Gomes is more likely to replicate his 2014 numbers across the board than better them.  That is still a tremendous spot for Gomes to be in as 20 home runs is huge for a catcher and so is the ability to hit over .270 which he has done for the last two seasons.  In digging deeper into his 2014 numbers, Gomes' .278 average was pretty legit as his BABIP was just slightly lucky at .326.  The 23.2 percent K rate is high no doubt and if Gomes goes under in the mean .300 BABIP mark, a dip in batting average could occur.  Still it won't be a drastic dip by any means and overall Gomes should at least be able to hit .260 and he will likely do better.  As far as the power, again project 20 home runs and around 75 RBI and anything in addition to that will be a swell bonus.

When you put it all together, Yan Gomes once again will be a terrific fantasy baseball catcher option to anchor your team there.  He doesn't have the flashy name that some other catchers around him have which means his value could be solid when it comes to the draft.  Either way this is a legit hitter who will be a nice help to you overall.

2015 PROJECTION:  .275 22 HR 77 RBI 65 R 2 SB
