FANTASY BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS REPORT: CUBS TO ACQUIRE MIGUEL MONTERO FROM D-BACKS

By Michael Wong

San Diego, CA.--The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to wheel and deal as they have agreed to trade catcher Miguel Montero to the Chicago Cubs for a mid-level prospect.  The Cubs will inherit the three years left on Montero's deal and the Cubs cross off another item on their to-do-list.  In addition, the Cubs will announce the re-signing of Jason Hammel early Tuesday and perhaps add Jon Lester later in the day.

-In other news, it appears as though the key piece that the Chicago White Sox will deal to the Oakland A's for ace SP Jeff Samardzjia will be shortstop prospect Marcus Semien.

-The New York Mets want to move Dillon Gee over Bartolo Colon or Jon Niese but are willing to part with any of them for a shortstop.  Right now Wilmer Flores is the guy who will be starter and not Ruben Tejada if the season began tomorrow according to GM Sandy Alderson who held court with reporters an hour ago.

-Marlon Byrd is another name who keeps coming up here.  The Mariners, Giants, and Orioles have all held dialogue.

-Melky Cabrera seems destined to sign with the Mariners as soon as Tuesday.
