FANTASY BASEBALL BREAKING NEWS: EDINSON VOLQUEZ LANDS IN KANSAS CITY FOR TWO-YEARS AND $20 MILLION

The Kansas City Royals signed free agent SP Edinson Volquez to a two-year deal worth $20 million, buying high on a guy who put up a career year in 2014 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Volquez pitched to a 3.04 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in his one and only season with the Pirates but prior to that he was arguably one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball the better part of five years prior.

Analysis:  Risky.  Volquez was almost out of baseball before taking a minor league deal with the Pirates and becoming the latest reclamation project made very good like with A.J. Burnett and Francisco Liriano.  He now moves to the rough American League where he doesn't get the benefit of pitching against the weaker NL lineups which means a sharp rise in his ERA is likely to go with the comeback of his past control problems.
