FANTASY BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS REPORT: RED SOX BACK IN ON JON LESTER

By Michael Wong

San Diego, CA.---As I reported last night, the Arizona Diamondbacks dealt catcher Miguel Montero to the Chicago Cubs for a prospect.  As a result the Cubs are now offering Wellington Castillo around the league.

-Still nothing yet on Jon Lester but I have been told that he is choosing between the San Francisco Giants and Cubs.

-The Detroit Tigers have stepped up their efforts to bring back Max Scherzer.  Team brass now feels that keeping Scherzer is the way to go and they are now looking to move either

-The Pittsburgh Pirates are moving closer to bringing back Francisco Liriano one a two-year deal.  They also are talking with Pat Neshek.

-Matt Kemp is still being talked about by the San Diego Padres.  The Seattle Mariners are out of the running.

-The Los Angeles Dodgers surprised some by publicly putting SS Dee Gordon up for trade.  With Cuban signee Alex Guerrero waiting in the minors, the Dodgers are trying to sell high here as Gordon comes off a career season I n2014 when he somehow batted .289 despite having awful plate discipline.

-The Marlon Byrd talks are heating up as the Baltimore Orioles are currently discussing trade parameters with the Philadelphia Phillies.

-The Miami Marlins continue to look for bats anywhere they can.  Mike Morse is high on their list as a cheap power bat and they also have discussed trading for Justin Morneau.

-LATE UPDATE:  I am hearing the Boston Red Sox are fully back in now on Jon Lester as they re-opened talks late Tuesday.
