2015 FANTASY BASEBALL CATCHER RANKINGS: A FIRST LOOK

It is pretty much time to turn all of our focus to the upcoming 2015 fantasy baseball season which is fast approaching.  With that said let's take a look at the very first set of position rankings starting with the catcher.

1.  Buster Posey:  Remains the best hitting catcher in the game but Posey's 2012 monster season is looking like a clear outlier.  Remains overpriced as most top tier catchers are.
2.  Carlos Santana:  Was arguably the worst hitter in the game the first two months of the season but wound up finishing with 27 home runs and 85 RBI while playing every day at third base.  As long as you accept the .260 average, Santana will produce.
3.  Devin Mesoraco:  The kid is for real.  Finally freed to play once Dusty Baker left town, don't forget Mesoraco as a top prospect in the Reds' system before exploding last season.  25 home runs entirely very repeatable.
4.  Evan Gattis:  23 home runs in only 369 at-bats show you how immense the power is but those same 369 at-bats continue to show how injury-prone he remains.  Could smash 30 home runs if he could ever amass enough at-bats to do so.
5.  Jonathan Lucroy:  Took a slight statistical step back last season but remains the rare catcher who can bat .300 and hit 15-plus home runs.
6.  Yan Gomes:  In 2014 Gomes validated his 2013 mini-breakout.  The power is legit and the Indians will continue trotting him out there every day behind the dish.  Upward we go.
7.  Brian McCann:  Can't deny the overwhelming feeling McCann as a huge bust his first season with the Yankees but he did wind up with a very good 23 home runs.  By now it is clear McCann will be a big average liability but 25 home runs are very likely now that he will have more comfort in his new home this time around.
8.  Wilin Rosario
9.  Yadier Molina:  Fading.  You want to move away from here as Molina is well into the danger zone age for a catcher at 33, his rate stats are all slipping, and now injuries are a big issue.
10. Wilson Ramos:  Yeah he is still tempting.  We all know Ramos can't stay healthy for more than two weeks at a time but boy is his bat terrific.  The price will be dirt cheap which means immense value could be had if he can figure out how to stay on the field.
11. Salvador Perez
12. Matt Wieters:  May have to drop Wieters down more after hearing reports he may not be ready for the start of 2015 after Tommy John surgery.
13. Travis D'Arnaud:  Took some time to figure things out but the second half of last season D'Arnaud hit like a top ten catcher.
14. Yasmani Grandal:  Capable of a better average and the power is blossoming.  Interesting.
15. Dioneer Navarro
16. Jason Castro:  Correctly nailed him as a bust candidate last season.  Still not looking here as the average is horrid and the knee issues are a constant battle.
17. Russell Martin
18. Miguel Montero
19. Mike Zunino:  Like the pop but Zunino is just the new J.P. Arencibia with his .200 average.
20. Jarrod Saltalamacchia
21. Derek Norris
22. Robinson Chirinos
23. John Jaso
24. Kurt Suzuki
25. Alex Avila
26. Carlos Ruiz
27. Wellington Castillo
28. Rene Rivera
29. Josmil Pinto
30. Ryan Doumit
