FANTASY BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS REPORT: BLUE JAYS IN TALKS WITH PHILLIES OVER HAMELS, UTLEY

By Michael Wong

Phoenix, AZ.--The major happenings today center on the widespread reports that the Toronto Blue Jays are discussing various players with the Philadelphia Phillies.  The Phillies continue to put it out there that pretty much everyone is available for trade and the Blue Jays specifically are asking about Cole Hamels and Chase Utley, with side talks centering on Antonio Bastardo.  The Phillies continue to insist on a top prospect for Hamels but are much more flexible on Utley and Bastardo.

-It is now a certainty that the Los Angeles Angels will deal either second baseman Howie Kendrick or third baseman David Freese.

-The San Diego Padres want to bring back SP Josh Johnson on a one-year deal after he missed most of 2014 due to Tommy John surgery.

-The Arizona Diamondbacks are now entering into the Troy Tulowitzki conversation with the Colorado Rockies.  Conflicting reports continue to circulate about how interested the New York Mets are for Tulo but we continue to hear they are very keen on the idea of getting a deal done there if possible.

-The Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros have contacted the agent for SS Hanley Ramirez in order to open up some dialogue.

-I am hearing that if David Robertson leaves the New York Yankees, it will be to the Detroit Tigers who are desperate for ninth inning help after Joe Nathan struggled there last season.

-Speaking of the Mets and Yankees, Didi Gregorious is a name that continues to pop up when regarding their shortstop openings.

More later.
