FANTASY FOOTBALL PLAYER ANALYZER: MATT ASIATA RB MINNESOTA VIKINGS

                                               Matt Asiata

Who?  That would be the collective response sometime Friday afternoon as it was learned that Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson would be deactivated for Week 2 and possible longer due to an indictment against him for child abuse.  While the news itself about Peterson was shocking and disgusting to say the least, the fallout from the angle of fantasy football was steep as the consensus top 3 overall veteran was now lost just like that.  With Toby Gerhart now in Jacksonville, the starting running back job now falls to the previously unknown Matt Asiata who gets a prime opportunity to show what he can do. A third-year undrafted player out of Utah, Asiata has only 49 career carries at an average of only 3.8.  Not impressive numbers by any means but a small sample size for sure.  With onl7 career receptions, Asiata is virtually impossible to project given the lack of tape on the guy.  However the chance is certainly being given to Asiata to be the team's starter as it is impossible to say how this situation with Peterson unfolds.  Asiata was undrafted for a reason and his measurable are pretty ordinary.  The Vikings do have a solid offensive line led by LT Matt Khalil and a developing game with Matt Cassel chucking it to big-play man Cordarelle Patterson.  Thus Asiata may not automatically see 8-man fronts and thus have some wiggle room to operate.  Again he is a completely unknown commodity at this point so there is no telling where this goes.  However as we have seen many times before, opportunity is everything.  Pick him up and stash him on the bench in order to see where this goes.
