FANTASY FOOTBALL BREAKING NEWS: BUCS SOURCE SAYS BOBBY RAINEY A "MAJOR THREAT" TO STARTING RUNNING BACK JOB FOR BUC'S

A team source connected to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff said on Tuesday that backup running back Bobby Rainey is quickly earning the confidence of Lovie Smith and that he could be in the process of taking the majority of carries away from starter Doug Martin.  Martin was horrendous in the opener as he rushed for only 9 yards on 9 carries before he exited with a knee injury.  Head coach Lovie Smith said publicly on Tuesday that Martin could have returned to the game if needed but he decided to ride Rainey to the finish.  While not going so far as to say Rainey will start this week, the source said that Martin's days as the workhorse back could already be finished.

Analysis:  Martin has taken a drastic fall from his standout 2012 rookie season and he shows no signs of turning the slide around.  Rainey meanwhile has all-around ability and is quickly gaining steam as an asset.  All Martin owners need to add Rainey and ask questions later.  This could be a fluid situation.

  1. I need a RB2 because my RB are Lacy, Steven Jackson, Lamar Miller, Dwyer, and Pierre Thomas....and have #2 waiver position (standard scoring). Would you rank Rainey higher than Ivory, West, Forsett or Crowell?

  2. Forsett has to be first since he is the only one with starting spot. I would rank Rainey higher than the rest in PPR.
