FANTASY FOOTBALL PRESEASON WEEK 3 WRAPUP: EAGLES/STEELERS

Only one preseason game to talk about as the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers waged an in-state battle.  Let's just say one big scare was avoided in the process.

-All LeSean McCoy fantasy football owners were holding their collective breaths Thursday night as the multi-talented back came out of the game in the first quarter with a thumb injury.  Subsequent X-rays came back negative though and McCoy was said to be "fine" afterwards.  A big sigh of relief for sure as fears of a broken bone or ligament damage became prevalent right after his exit.  McCoy had a terrific game leading up to the injury as he rushed for 24 yards on only 4 carries and caught two passes.  One of the throws from Nick Foles resulted in a touchdown as McCoy showed off his uncanny ability to both run and catch the football.  I have waffled back and forth between declaring McCoy or Jamaal Charles as the top player in 2014 fantasy football and either way both figure to have unmatched monster seasons.

-Speaking of Foles, he was a bit wild early on in the game but finished strong as he completed 19-of-29 for 179 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.  For the preseason Foles threw for 304 yards with 2 TD's and 3 INT's which is not the ratio you want with the latter two numbers but no worries.  While Foles will not come close to his ridiculous TD/INT ratio from 2013, he is a sure fire QB 1 who should easily pass 4,000 yards and 25 TD's.

-Jeremy Maclin was an obvious sleeper that no one can take credit for regarding originality as he was moving into a fantasy football gold mine situation in coming back from missing all of 2013 with injury and being reinserted into Chip Kelly's offense.  Despite some more leg trouble this preseason, Maclin gave us a glimpse of what could be in store for this season as he caught 6 passes for 43 yards Thursday night.  As long as Maclin can stay on the field which is always his biggest challenge, 80 catches and 1,000 yards should be easy.

-Both Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount both played extensively Thursday night as head coach Mike Tomlin continued to show his disgust for both getting pinched for marijuana possession.  Bell also was busted for DUI which could lead to a NFL-mandated suspension.  Either way their situation is a mess all the way around and is not fantasy football appealing to say the least.

There you have it.  Lots of games on tap this weekend to discuss.
