FANTASY BASEBALL BREAKING NEWS: JENRRY MEJIA PICKS UP FIRST SAVE SATURDAY FOR METS

It appears as though Jenrry Mejia has now graduated into the closer role for the New York Mets after he picked up his first save Saturday against the Washington Nationals.  Mejia came on to protect a 5-2 lead and proceeded to throw a scoreless frame with only one hit given up and two strikeouts.  While Terry Collins has said he would be using a committee in the ninth inning for the time being, a Mets team source has told us repeatedly Mejia will be given every chance to claim the gig.

Analysis:  There is it.  What was really nice to see is that Mejia gave up a leadoff single to Jayson Werth but than got three straight outs to finish it off.  We reported three weeks ago that Mejia was going to be getting a look at closer and our source was right on with that assessment.  Mejia has the potential to be very solid in the ninth inning as long as he can stay healthy.
