THE FANTASY SPORTS BOSS AT THE COMBINE: LET THE MADNESS BEGIN

By Eric C. Wright

Indianapolis, IN.--Back again in Indianapolis for the annual NFL Combine nuttiness which is in overdrive in this QB-heavy draft to go along with the continued talk about the coming out of Missouri's Michael Sam last week.  The poking and prodding will begin in earnest and yours truly will bring you as much information as I can possibly get from this incredibly secretive process.

-The immediate talk after getting into town is that the Houston Texans have completely zeroed in on either Johnny Manziel or Blake Bortles as the top pick in the draft and thus to become their franchise QB.  Of course that means Lousisville's Teddy Bridgewater will drop from the top spot which many, including yours truly, thought he was deserving of.  Right now the Texans reportedly are weighing how much of a distraction it might be for Manziel staying in Texas not terribly far from where he made a big name for himself with the Aggies.  At the same time Bortles remains filled with questions about his footwork, lack of experience, and the fact he was not even highly recruited coming out of high school.

The St. Louis Rams meanwhile are ready to pounce on South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney at number 2 unless they are blown away by a trade.  I heard directly from a team source that they would want someone's entire draft to move out of the number 2 spot given the immense upside of Clowney.

-A few running back nuggets.  New York Giants back David Wilson is now expected to be 100 percent for training camp and be able to be cleared to play after dealing with a scary neck problem in 2013 that resulted in spinal fusion surgery.  The Giants have some decisions to make there as Andre Brown is a free agent.

Also the Arizona Cardinals WILL NOT give the starting running back job outright to Andre Ellington next season.  Instead they will use a dreaded committee with the team possibly re-signing Rashard Mendenhall.

That's all for now.  Lots more later on.
