2014 FANTASY BASEBALL AROUND THE CAMPS: NEW YORK YANKEES

Today we begin out 30-part series where we take a closer look at every Major League Baseball team from a fantasy baseball ankle so that we stay on top of all the storylines and happenings coming out of every corner of the game.  So with that said today we begin in the AL East with the New York Yankees who always are chock full of fantasy baseball hitters and pitchers.  Below are five prime questions for the 2014 fantasy baseball season and the list of Yankees sleepers and busts.

1.  Is Masahiro Tanaka more Yu Darvish or Hiroki Kuroda?  W
While both Darvish and Kuroda are excellent pitchers, the difference between the two reside in the strikeouts.  Darvish is the current strikeout king in baseball who is the only starter who can go past the 250 mark.  A top K season for Kuroda meanwhile is around 160.  As far as Tanaka is concerned, we feel very confident in projecting him as at least and SP 2 with the upside to be an ace.  What Tanaka has going for him is that he has top notch control which countryman Daisuke Matsuzaka didn't have.  Also Tanaka might already have the best splitter in the game to go with a very good fastball and he didn't give up many home runs in Japan which is a plus in pitching in the AL East.  The only questions Tanaka has are if he can hold up under the increased American workload and where his K's will land.  Tanaka is probably a good sell in August which is when fatigue could set in.  As far as the strikeouts are concerned, 180 is a solid projection with 190 a good possibility.  While Tanaka won't blow batters away like Darvish, his great splitter and good fastball will go well with the unfamiliarity aspect of his arsenal and that should generate swings and misses.  The hype is in overdrive so you have to pay to find out how good he will be but we trust in the makeup.

2.  After missing almost all of 2013 with a wrist injury, is Mark Teixeira a good bounceback buy?
