FANTASY BASEBALL HOT STOVE BREAKING NEWS: MASAHIRO TANAKA SWEEPSTAKES COULD COME DOWN TO MARINERS AND D-BACKS

According to multiple sources, the Seattle Mariners and to a lesser extent the Arizona Diamondbacks are looked at as the early favorites to land Japanese free agent SP Masahiro Tanaka.  With Seattle having a very big Japanese population and a long history of signing players from the Japanese League, they have been assumed a logical destination.  Also with their proclivity to spend money this offseason, highlighted by giving $240 million to second baseman Robinson Cano, they clearly have the resources to do this.

Analysis:  What is interesting is that we haven't heard the New York Yankees mentioned much when it was talked that they would do whatever it takes to get him under wraps.  Blessed with mid-90's fastball and excellent control, Tanaka could start out as an SP 2 in fantasy baseball terms with the upside to be more.

  1. I think the Yankees are keeping a low profile with a big offer in their back pocket. They will pounce at the opportune moment.
