2014 FANTASY BASEBALL SECOND BASEMAN I LIKE/HATE MORE THAN YOU

Moving right along with my Player I Like/Hate More Than You feature, I bring you the second baseman who make the list as far as who I am zeroing in on and who I am avoiding.

SECOND BASEMAN I LIKE MORE THAN YOU

1.  Aaron Hill:  This is going to be my second baseman this season.  Hill had a rough 2013 due to injuries only.  His power numbers and the rest of his profile were at the same pace they were the two seasons prior.  If all breaks right you might be getting 20 home runs and 15 stolen bases with a .280 batting average.  He might very well do better than those numbers as well if Hill can stay healthy.

2.  Jose Altuve:  I am a bit proponent of getting steals out of your middle infielders and Altuve is one of the better options at second base when looking for a boost there.  Altuve is capable of 40 steals to go with 80 runs and a solid batting average.  He also can pop a few home runs.

3.  Jurickson Profar:  Profar turned off some last season buy doing very little during his first MLB season.  The kid has extreme potential however and has the second base spot all to his own with Ian Kinsler out of town.  The power/speed ability is there and ready to be unleashed.  I will be there when it happens.

SECOND BASEMAN I HATE MORE THAN YOU

1.  Robinson Cano:  For those who are habitual readers, you know all too well my reluctance to ever consider drafting Robinson Cano in the first round which has been his grade the last five years.  While I have no qualms with Cano's hitting and run producing ability, what I do have a problem with is using a first round pick on a second baseman.  I have said all along your top two picks should be a five tool outfielder and a slugging first baseman.  Hence no room for Cano.  In fact drafting Cano in round 1 looks even worse now after he took the money and ran to Seattle and their awful power park and the utter lack of help in the lineup.  Cano will lose a few home runs and even more RBI with the Mariners this season which makes him even more sketchy to draft.  No thank you.  Stick to the outfielder and first baseman.

2.  Ian Kinsler:  Trouble here as Kinsler's numbers have slid the last two seasons and now he goes from quite possibly the best hitting park in the game to one of the worst in moving from Texas to Detroit.  Kinsler is now past the age of 30 which means the speed that seems to be eroding may not come back and his average has never been great to begin with.  In addition Kinsler will lose some home runs in his new home and he has never been the picture of health.

3.  Matt Carpenter:  Is going to be overdrafted due to his MVP consideration last season.  When you break it down Carpenter is an asset only in average and runs.  He has next to no power and speed and his RBI are likely to slide with the Cards losing strength in the lineup.

As always let us know the second baseman you want or are avoiding.
