FANTASY BASEBALL WELCOME TO THE SHOW: WIL MYERS OUTFIELDER TAMPA BAY RAYS

The big news on Sunday was the announcement by the Tampa Bay Rays that they had called up to outfield hitting prospect Wil Myers from Triple-A Durham.  Myers will immediately join the team in Boston for their upcoming series and he is expected to be in the lineup Tuesday.  Universally considering the top power hitting prospect in all of baseball with St. Louis' Oscar Taveras, Myers will finally start to return some value to his fantasy baseball owners who have stashed him for the first two and half months of the season.  With that said let's take a closer look at Myers and what he could provide his owners going forward.

Like I stated earlier, power is the name of the game when it comes to Myers.  Compared to the Baltimore Orioles' Chris Davis or the Cincinnati Reds' Jay Bruce, Myers comes up from Triple-A with a .283 average with 14 home runs and 57 RBI in 63 games.  The average actually made a nice improvement from earlier on in the season when Myers was in the .250 range.  But it is the power that will be the calling card for Myers and his eager fantasy baseball owners.  At only 22-years-old, Myers has a lot to learn at the major league level about pitch recognition and the strike zone which could result in some sketchy averages right out of the gate and he doesn't have much in the way of speed so don't look for a stolen base help either.  However Myers already has his home run swing down pat and 15 home runs the rest of the way is very possible.  Putting all the numbers together, Myers has the look of an outfielder 3 but his ceiling is vast.  Obviously if he is still available in your league, pick him up immediately and if you are already an owners, just be sure not to expect the moon right away which is something we are all prone to when it comes to these hyped kids.
