FANTASY BASEBALL CLOSING TIME: REX BROTHER FINALLY GETS A SHOT, LUKE GREGERSON BACK AGAIN

Tuesday is now our new Closing Time day so let's get right to the latest new heading out of the ninth inning.

-Credit the father of Colorado Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt for breaking the news Saturday that his son would be going on the DL due to ongoing problems with his injured groin.  After avoiding the DL in the first place when he first came down with sorenes in the going over a week ago, Betancourt struggled on the mound and finally gave in to then idea of resting for two weeks.  Enter Rex Brother who has a cool closing name and who has also been mowing them down in setup all season to the tune of a 0.36 ERA and 25 K's in 24.2 innings.  While Brothers had a sometimes shaky career at times leading up to this season, there is no doubt he has figured something out to turn himself into a major weapon in the team's bullpen.  With Betancourt expected back after the 15 days are up, this story won't last too long but at least the numbers check out which minimizes some of the risk.

-Another year and another injury for San Diego Padres closer Huston Street who hit the DL Sunday with a strained calf.  Luke Gregerson was given the nod to replace him in the ninth inning over Dale Thayer who struggled when replacing Street last season.  Gregerson has been a top setup guy for years and one would have thought he would have been given a chance by now but that is neither here nor there.  He should do very well while Street is out and there is some thought that the latter might not be ready to return when his 15 day stint is up.

-The Fernando Rodney watch has settled down a bit as the struggling Tampa Bay closer has pitched 5 straight scoreless apperanaces which include converting two saves.  Hold Joel Peralta for another week or so.

That's all for now .  As always let's hear your thoughts.
