The New York Mets, still in need of a closer to replace Frank Francisco in the ninth inning, have now checked in on Jose Valverde as a possibly cheap solution. Valverde showed his age in 2012 by losing his closer job but the Mets are likely to be able to nab him on a one-year deal.
Analysis: This marriage makes sense and it could have some serious legs to it. GM Sandy Alderson said he also has Brian Wilson still on his radar but Valverde is in position to be useful out of the gate while the former Giants closer needs time to recover from Tommy John surgery.
